• On My (and their) Desire to Learn

    I recently sat through a six hour adult education class to learn about Adobe Photoshop.  I went into the class with a thirst for knowledge, a ton of excitement, ready to learn.  It was a strange and unfamiliar feeling.  Years of school left me bored in class, simply doing the minimum to get my A’s and B’s, memorizing enough to take the tests well, and then forgetting everything I learned.  It was frustrating.  I wanted to learn so much, but just not anything they were teaching in those classes!     As we inch closer to the beginning of our summer and the end of preschool, my self doubt begins to surface. And while we are firm in our decision to do preschool at home next year, I can’t help but second guess myself. I have been thinking, how am I going to possibly have enough time to teach Lucas everything he needs to learn?   And if I do this the next year, how will I keep up with the “required learning skills” that the schools teach?  I don’t have multiple hours a day to devote solely to one child.     Just a warning… in case you haven’t noticed, my inner hippie is coming out more and more.  If you aren’t ready for more of my earth mama ideas, you may want to stop reading here.
